I have always believed the best paintings do one quiet thing. They hold a moment still. They catch the way late afternoon light falls across a wall, the way a figure rests on a tiled floor, the way an hour can feel like it has stopped moving.
The L’Odalisca tries to hold that feeling on the wrist. It is a hand-painted limited edition built on the Venezianico Redentore, an official Venezianico × IFL Watches collaboration. The dial is inspired by Hermann David Salomon Corrodi, a 19th-century Italian painter whose Imagined Orient carried Mediterranean light and atmospheric scenes into European art. The reinterpretation we chose draws on Ladies of the Harem Bathing, one of his most evocative works.
I find myself looking at the watch the way I look at a painting I love. It gives me a moment to pause.
The Painter Behind the Scene
Born in Frascati in 1844, Hermann David Salomon Corrodi was an Italian painter and one of the leading figures of 19th-century European Orientalism. He traveled across Egypt and North Africa, returning with canvases full of Mediterranean light, exotic architecture, and figures rendered in soft, unhurried hours.
The dial of the L’Odalisca is a hand-painted reinterpretation of Ladies of the Harem Bathing, one of Corrodi’s most evocative works. The painting portrays female figures resting in a water garden, framed by Moorish arches and warm golden light. Velvety shadows. Earthy tones. A composition that feels both timeless and dreamlike.
Each dial is painted by hand by our artists. Brush by brush, they lay down skin tone, fabric weight, the play of shadow across stone. Place two L’Odalisca dials side by side and they will not look identical. One carries a slightly different warmth in the light. Another holds a fold of shadow at a different angle. That is what happens when a painting comes off a brush instead of a printer.
Built for the Painting
We chose the Venezianico Redentore as the canvas for this artwork on purpose. The Redentore is one of the quieter watches in Venezianico’s catalogue. A 40 mm steel case with clean lines and minimal ornamentation. It steps back so the painting can step forward.
The case sits at 11 mm thick with a 46.7 mm lug-to-lug, so it wears comfortably across most wrist sizes. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the painted dial, and a soft saffiano leather strap with a pin buckle finishes the piece in matching restraint.
What you wear, then, is a quiet Italian platform carrying an Italian artistic tradition. The watch and the painting come from the same place.
