Nothing dramatic happened. Someone who was in your life every day became someone it would now be strange to call. You find out their news the same way strangers do. The last thing either of you sent was about nothing in particular, and it has been sitting at the bottom of the thread for months.
It happens faster than it used to, and it usually means nothing at all, which is the part that stings.
The spirit on this dial knows the feeling.
The Idea
It was abandoned once and left waiting, then misunderstood for a long time after that. Eventually somebody believed in its strength, and the old resentment turned into fierce loyalty.
Our artists painted the moment after. The instant it decided whose side it was on. You will notice it is not sulking in a corner anywhere on this dial. It is mid-attack, and it looks like it is enjoying itself.
The artwork
The scene is built in deep violet and magenta on a black dial, with white and cyan stars scattered through it. The creature comes in from the left, wreathed in flame, trailing a dark streak behind it.
The sphere of energy sits low and to the right, and it is doing something clever. It is painted directly over the small seconds register, so the watch keeps its function and the artwork loses nothing. Under ultraviolet light the whole dial answers back, pigments glowing violet and magenta.
The Watch Behind the Artwork
Defiant Inferno came first, a fire-breathing icon across a cosmic sky. Defiant Shadow is its counterpart and it uses the same canvas.
That canvas is the Citizen Zenshin, 40.5 mm of Super Titanium on an integrated bracelet. Underneath sits the Caliber 8213 automatic with 42 hours of power reserve, sapphire crystal, and water resistance to 100 meters. After dusk the hands glow purple, which is a good hour to be reminded that nobody stays overlooked forever.
