Amphibian Cœur de Paris: A Whole City to Get Lost In

Some cities live in your head long before you ever set foot in them, and Paris is one of those. The Paris of old films and faded postcards. A café table on a narrow street, the river going gold at dusk, the lights coming on across the rooftops. It pulls at you and makes you want to go, get lost in it, and find the corners nobody puts on a postcard. That feeling is what we wanted to put on a wrist.

This is our first watch with ESKA, a French house that assembles its watches in Besançon. The Amphibian 250 is their take on a storied dive watch, and it felt like the right partner for a watch about a French city.

Most city watches pick one landmark. We wanted the whole of Paris. The Seine runs down the center of the dial, with the Eiffel Tower, Sacré-Cœur, the Opéra Garnier, the Pont Alexandre III, and even a tiny Mona Lisa around it. The dial ignores the map, so places that sit miles apart end upside by side. Our artists paint every one by hand under a violet to rose evening sky, and no two come out the same.

Underneath all that is a proper dive watch. A 40mm steel case, a unidirectional bezel, 250 meters of water resistance, and a Swiss Sellita SW200 automatic inside. Put it on, catch Paris glowing up from your wrist, and all you want to do is go see it for real.
